This is a picture of my daughter and her husband on the morning after their wedding, with the quilt that I had made for them to honor the occasion.Making the quilt was such a pleasure, as I worked on it I was able to spend time thinking about how much I love the kids, and praying for their upcoming wedding and future life together. By the time I had finished the quilt, having spent so much time and effort on it, in some ways it was like giving a piece of myself to them.
In much the same way as making this quilting, sharing stories about our lives gives us an opportunity to share a piece of ourself with those we love. I am looking forward to one day having some stories organized in such a manner that I can give a gift to my children and grandchildren.
This is one of the reasons that I write.

ReplyDeleteI write because I have to. It's like an addiction that can't be satisfied!
Writing helps me to escape from the daily stresses especially the unrelenting pain of having a chronic illness. It's therapy...great therapy!
And I pray that my stories will minister to others for enjoyment, encouragement and blessing.
As a quilt lover, I have to say your quilt is beautiful and they are so lucky that you did that for them!!

That quilt (lovely!) is one of the best wedding gifts I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI guess my writing is like a big patchwork affair, with scraps of different sorts all sewn together to form a body of work. :)

As a young child I remember sitting out on the sun porch with my grannyma and her sister quilting. They would patiently teach me and my sister to stitch each stitch with love. I never pursued that craft. Rather I followed in my mother's footsteps (my mom wrote poetry).
ReplyDeleteWhen I married at the young age of 18, my grandmother gave us one of her quilts and my husband's grandmother gave us one of her quilts. It was a tradition within our families.
I write because it is in my blood. I write because I am passionate about it. I write to leave a legacy of me and my family.
