A short prairie drive. We headed to the grocery store one afternoon so I could get some things in preparation for making meals for the freezer. Hubby, knowing the stress I’ve felt, chose a circuitous route to give me what we call “my prairie fix.” It was just what I needed.
Leftover birthday cheesecake. I had a birthday at the end of January and tucked the remainder of my birthday cheesecake in the freezer. We enjoyed a slice each one evening this week.
A good night’s sleep. Seriously. Is there anything better?
Zoom. I meet with four other women via Zoom every Thursday for a time of Examen in which we reflect on the past week. I’m grateful for each one and the wisdom they impart and for the technology that allows us to do gather.
A good book. When I was away, my girls and I spent a pleasant hour or so browsing in the bookstore. I found this one, and devoured it. It’s my favourite read in a good long while.
That’s it for today! I’m off to read about your fave fives now.

ok so this is truly bizarre. I was JUST looking at THe God of the Woods (because it's set in our beloved Adirondacks!!) at the library and almost took it out but then chose a different book instead. So now I'll have to go back and get it!! So funny you mention it here! i'm an avid reader so I usually take 2-3 books out at a time at our library. We are allowed 3 weeks unless there's a wait list or it's a "brand new release" and then we are given 14 days. We have auto renewal if we have an online account though so sometimes if the book has no one waiting for it, I can renew it.
ReplyDeleteI can't eat cheesecake due to being allergic to cream cheese but my husband loves it! Glad you could enjoy another slice of your birthday treat.
Ok...so driving across Indiana was enough "prairie" for me. I could never live where it's flat. Western NY for college was bad enough. I need my mountains. From my backyard deck i can see the mts of Vermont, from downtown albany I can see the Catskills, and just 20 min north of me are the southern edge of the eastern Adirondacks. I love my mountains!! :)
Happy Valentine's Day!
I highly recommend The God of the Woods, Faith. I think it's my favourite read so far this year! Ha ha - on your thoughts about driving across the prairie. It's definitely something you either appreciate or your don't!
DeleteDefinitely agree about a good nights sleep. How nice to have leftover cheesecake. One of my favourite desserts. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou too, Wendy!
DeleteI'm off to our library site to see if the book is available. I have better luck finding good books through recommendations than if I go and choose at random.
ReplyDeleteI’ve read two other blogs recommending this book today, it’s a good one, hope you can get it.
DeleteA good night's sleep is something to celebrate! I do love cheesecake and it lasts for a long while in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteThe God of the Woods sounds like an interesting book.
We drove across Canada in 2023 and people rolled their eyes at the thought of driving across the prairies. We found it beautiful.
There’s so much to see on the prairies. I don’t get it when I hear someone say it’s boring. To each his or her own, I guess!
DeleteA good night's sleep is really the best medicine ever. Really the prairies are not as flat or as boring as some people think.
ReplyDeleteMy husband picked up some Japanese business men who wanted to check out the oil patch here from the airport in Regina. They made him stop, got out of the vehicle and looked at him saying "How absolutely beautiful all this space is."
God bless.
Completely understand what those Japanese businessmen were talking about, Jackie! I agree wholeheartedly.
DeleteA relaxing drive, a good night's sleep, a favorite new book, yummy dessert. So many small but very important parts of your week.
ReplyDeleteI have a weekly zoom with four friends, too. It's a breath of fresh air every Friday.
I will look up The God of the Woods. Thanks for the recommendation.
Hope you find the book and enjoy it as much as I did, Willow.
DeleteGlad you're safely home! My d-i-l and grandson have had cheesecake for their birthdays sometimes. A good night's sleep is a treasure!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, a solid night's sleep is something to be grateful for. Thanks much for stopping by, Barbara!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous pick of the Saskatchewan skies. I find driving to Regina there is not a whole lot to look at except the farmland but the skies sometimes put on quite a show. The older I get the more thankful I am for a good night's sleep. Gotta love a piece of birthday cheesecake at a later date. Yum!
