Travel Woes

I arrived home in the wee hours of Monday morning after another long and unpredictable travel day. At this point, I’m beyond done with traveling.

My flight out of Kamloops on Sunday was delayed for eight hours, initially because of early morning fog preventing an incoming flight from landing, setting dominoes of flight mayhem into motion.

My connecting flight in Calgary was rescheduled, of course, and the gate moved to the farthest possible location near the international terminal. I was a walking zombie by the time i got there.

Finally arrived in Regina at almost 2 a.m. yesterday, after a flight with turbulence like I’ve never experienced in all my years of flying.

Gerry’s alarm didn’t go off so, I had to wait for about 45 minutes him to pick me up (as he was coming from the city where we live).

While I waited, I filed a missing luggage report.

Finally made it home and to bed around 3:30 a.m., which is pretty darn close to the time I usually get up in the morning.

Needless to say, yesterday was a wash.

Oh, and while I was eating a sandwich yesterday afternoon, one of my veneers came off.

I’ve got an early appointment with the dentist this morning, and received notification that my luggage has been found and is with a courier for delivery.

I feel as if I need a vacation after my little vacation, but there’s no way I’m going anywhere anytime soon!

I enjoyed a lovely few days with daughter and granddaughter, which made the travel woes worth all the trouble. Mostly. šŸ˜‰

I’m rebooting this blog that I left for parts known and unknown in 2010 when I combined three blogs into one on my website. I look forward to reconnecting here and making new connections. You.can also find me on my website and Substack.

    1. Absolutely nuts, Jenn. Things are gradually settling back into a “normal” routine, thank goodness!

  2. Oh, Linda, what an ordeal. I used to enjoy flying — years ago — but now I only do it if absolutely necessary. Our son and his family are a 15-hour drive from us, and being retired we have the luxury of taking our time and visiting places along the way. I much prefer it. I’m glad you got to spend time with your daughter and granddaughter. A light at the end of that dark tunnel!

    1. An ordeal indeed, Karen! We’re about that far away now too and my husband has a “pedal to the metal” mindset on road trips. I think that has to change for sanity’s sake!

  3. I feel your pain, I truly do. I wrote about the horrible experience we had going through Punta Cana airport back on the 28th of last month. It sure puts a damper on the whole travel experience that's for sure.

    1. Oh, Gill, I just popped over and read your account of going through the airport in Punta Cana and wanted to cry with you. We visited the Dominican Republic a number of years ago, but I don’t recall anything about the airport experience, so I think that probably means it went smoothly for us. Travel is certainly a mixed bag at times.

  4. Oh Linda, what a time you had! I can certainly identify. Traveling is wonderful but oh boy, it can be S.T.R.E.S.S.F.U.L., too. I'm so happy you connected with your daughter and granddaughter. Yes, seeing our loved ones makes the turmoil (mostly) worth it. Now you are home again and can relax, doing many things you love. THANK YOU SO MUCH for visiting Writing Straight from the Heart and commenting, too. I started my blog in 2009 and it has brought immense joy into my life, through good times and bad! Have a great rest of the week! Susan

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Susan! I agree with you about the joy of blogging. I appreciate the folks who have traveled with me through blog land, some since I started in 2008.

  5. Oh my goodness. So many problems with flights. So far we have been very lucky, but I will need to keep my fingers crossed for the next overseas trip. I am glad that you made it home safely and your luggage found so quickly.

    God bless.

    1. I’ve flown a lot over the years and this was, by far, my worst experience. Given the ratio of good trips vs not-so-good ones, I’m not too jaded and trust your overseas trip will go smoothly. How exciting!
