About

First, some blogging history.

I began my blogging journey in 2008, here at My Own Velvet Room, with this post that explains the name. In a nutshell, it comes from a favourite book from when I was a child, The Velvet Room by Zilpha Snyder.

In time, I created two other blogs: A Grandma's Garden and Arms of Adoption. As I was starting out on the journey to write my first book, I also created a website. Whew! That was a lot!

Wisdom prevailed, and in 2010 I combined the blogs, renamed them A Slice of Life, and moved everything to my website (https://lindahoye.com/) where I've continued to blog all these years. In August, 2025, I moved A Slice of Life to Substack.

I've always had a soft spot for Blogger and the blogging community, and am delighted to be back at My Own Velvet Room. (I'm still on Substack, too, for the time being.)

Now, some personal stuff.

In 2014, I retired from my corporate career and my husband and I moved back to Canada from Washington State, settling in the city in British Columbia we had lived in for many years prior to moving to the U.S. Now, we live in my hometown in Saskatchewan, Canada.

It was always my dream to come home to the prairie ever since my family moved to British Columbia. Fifty years after we left, my dream came true and here we are.

Gerry and I share our home with a somewhat demanding Yorkshire Terrier named Molly. Between us, we have four children and three amazing grandchildren who are scattered about the western Canadian provinces.

An unapologetic homebody, my days are mostly spent writing, reading, gardening, painting with watercolour, and participating in yoga classes.

And, finally, my writing journey.

Two Hearts: An Adoptee's Journey Through Grief to Gratitude, my story of reconnecting with my first family, was released in 2012.

I wrote The Presence of Absence: A Story About Busyness, Brokenness, and Being Beloved after retiring from my corporate career. It's a spiritual memoir about the transition from work to home life and experiencing the grace of God in the process,  It came out in 2020.

Living Liminal: A Slice of Pandemic Life came out in 2023. It's a chronicle of two unforgettable years—2020 and 2021.

There's more about them on my website.
