There is an interesting article this morning on the WOW! Women on Writing Blog about reading our work aloud. When I am working something I always take some time, often more than once, to read it out loud. I find that reading a piece on my computer screen, reading a hard copy, and reading aloud work together in the editing process.
I'm curious. Do you read your work out loud?

I do read mine out loud quite often, I find my mistakes easier that way
Yes I sometimes read my work out loud, which helps me catch simple grammatical errors - repeated words, flow. My daughter works in her college Writing Center, and this advice, to read aloud, is given often to the students who come in for help. It's another way of "seeing" the words.
Thank you for following my blog, I really enjoy yours
I like reading it aloud to my husband. He'll bring up something that doesn't sound right or would make sense a different way, and that's often helpful.
I'm still more comfortable just reading things in my head, though. But ALWAYS from a printed out copy. I catch so much more that way.
I am new here! What a great blog! Hope you are having a great weekend! ♥ Hugs!
I always read my poetry out loud, and sometimes parts of the fiction. You're right about it giving you a whole nother perspective.
I do read my work aloud. As part of conferencing and revising, I always encourage my students to either read it aloud to me or another student. As another commented said above, it really helps in catching grammar errors and overuse of words.
Absolutely - I think it's critical!
Hi, My first time here. I think I found you at Terri's.
You ask the question about if we read our writings out loud... yes yes, I do all the time. Have done so for years, as I can feel the rhythm and flow when I say it aloud.
I think we find our mistakes better too. Plus, we hear what we're really saying, and recognizing if that's what we really meant when we chose those particular words.
I'm looking forward to browsing through your site. I was pulled toward your blog by your name title -- my own velvet room --- sounds like a lovely place to be.
I like beautiful things and I write about living a beautiful life. Hope you will stop by for a visit sometime.
