Well this knitting thing is actually turning out okay. Once I finally figured out how to cast on, and spent way too much time figuring out how to actually knit a row and purl another, I've decided that this just might work out.
Knitting gives me an opportunity to sit quietly and calm my mind. I can spend time listening to a TV program and not feel guilty for wasting time. It also gives me a wonderful opportunity to let my mind wander. Just this afternoon, while Gerry and the dogs were napping on the sofa, I made plans for Christmas gifts, prayed for family and friends, mentally worked on my memoir, all while knitting. All in all, I'd say it was time well spent.
On another note, we were out shopping today and came across a Skechers shoe store. We had never heard of them before, but we had an opportunity to each try a pair of Skechers Shape-Up's on. I must say that they were the most comfortable shoes I've ever had on my feet. We are thinking about getting a pair, but they are a bit pricey. I'm wondering if any of my bloggy friends have heard of them, or even have a pair?

Hi Linda - yes I have scetchers (sp) and I love them - I have 2 pair and am taking them both to Oz. I can put my orthotic in (taking out the pad that is in there) so that makes them so great.
Keep at the knitting - you may want to knit an entire scarf with just the knit stitch until you get comfortable with an even tension - or maybe one row knit - the next purl. When I started I kept it to just the knit stitch at first. Another hint - count your stitches often as it is easy to end up with more (or less) and then you have a crooked scarf. If you go into a knitting store they will help you.
Hello Linda. I'm glad you're enjoying your knitting. I love knitting so much. I do it all the time for all the reasons you mention and more. Yes, we have those shoes in my home town. They look gorgeous but I think they are meant for the younger generation, younger than me I mean. Happy shopping,
Blessings, Star
Hi Linda,
Skechers are the only athletic type shoes I wear. They just fit my feet, and they feel good. I avoid the outrageous styles meant for the young. The trick to the "pricey" part is to find an outlet store. Any of those malls near you? I've never paid full price.
Hugs, sid
We like Skechers in general, but haven't tried the ones you mentioned. If they're comfy, they'd be worth that cost, I bet.
Great job sticking to the knitting! It's a lesson not to give up after one try.
I bought my first pair of Sketchers last week. They are brown and sort of look like bowling shoes, but prettier. And oh so comfortable.
Glad to hear you conquered the knitting project!
When I first learned to knit, I held the yarn and needles so tightly it was definitely not relaxing. It took quite a while to loosen up so that my fingers didn't hurt.
Practice makes perfect.
