November Challenges

It's November, and November is choc-full of writing opportunities and inspiration.
For fiction writiers, there is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) where participants write an entire novel during the month.  Not only am I not a novelist, but that sounds like way more pressure than I need in my life.

Then thre is NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) that invites bloggers to post every day during November.  Again, perhaps a bit daunting for some.

Recently, I learned about WNFiN (Write Nonfiction in November) and this one is something that I can get my arms around.  To participate in Write Nonfiction in November, all you have to do is start and finish one piece of nonfiction during November.  It can be an essay, the chapter of a book, a query letter, anything.  To participate all one has to do is make up his or her mind and get started.  There will be daily posts on the on the WNFiN website with information and tips for all writers.

Come on and join me in the WNFiN challenge this month!

NaNo's the only one I was previously familiar with, but like you, I'm hearing of all these alternatives to fill the gaps of other kinds of writing. This one's up your alley! Good luck, Linda. We expect progress reports! :)

Have you thought of modifying part of your memoir manuscript into a standalone essay and submitting that? It's a great way to get some of it out there into the publishing world. Good luck, I'll be rooting for you!

Thanks for mentioning WNFiN here in your blog! I really appreciate it. I hope your readers will join us in writing nonfiction this month. It's a great challenge and my guest bloggers really provide some awesome information.

As for modifying part of a memoir into an essay, that's a superb idea. I talked about doing just that recently during a teleseminar for the National Association of Memoir Writers. The founder of that association will be writing a blog post during WNFiN.

Happy writing this month!

By the way, I hadn't heard of National Blog Posting Month...one more reason that I declare November should be National Writing Month.

I really wish they would move NaNo to January or February when you don't have any major holidays and the evenings are long, dark, and cold. That is the perfect writing time for me!

Thanks for all the November writing tips. I only knew about NanoWrimo. In fact, I signed up for it and promptly forgot about it when November 1 came around.

What can I do, I'm already three days behind. Maybe I'm just more of a reader than a writer.

Looks like a website I might enjoy reading (just popped over there for a minute); have mercy...

I can't imagine writing a complete novel in a month! I can barely find the time to be a mom/wife/occasional blog poster, etc. I do, however, find that when I discipline myself to writing everyday, whether it be a small amount or a couple of thousand words, I look forward to it more and find the "flow" to be a bit easier.

Thanks for checking in with me and weighing in on a very important topic.

Blessings and peace~elaine
