Yesterday morning I read a post by Judi over at A Baby Boomer Women's Life After 50 that I haven't been able to get out of my mind. She talks about a week of self-care she just experienced and how her perspective on what's really important has changed. For some reason this resonated strongly with me.
We had a snow day here and spent much a wonderful low key day at home. Not worrying about having to rush out to do anything we got our Christmas letters printed and ready to send, played with the dogs, played some Flinch, read books and just enjoyed being home together.
Last evening we spent a pleasant time with friends from Church in a home that is so cozy that one feels as if they could curl up and stay for a week or so just basking in the peace and welcoming that is part of that family.
Sometimes in our daily lives we can find ourselves on a treadmill of sorts where we're too busy to pay attention to our own mental and physical health. I'm "hearing" messages from everywhere lately. I need to slow down and take better care of myself and focus more on what is really important.
What messages are you "hearing" lately?

What I've been hearing is loud and clear: that I need to stand up for what I deserve, and stop settling for less. I'm on that path right now.
Hugs.
Linda, heed that good advice and take care of YOU sometimes! I adore the snowy Christmas lights pic. :) (The girls are presh in their studio pic too.)
Glad you got to have a nice, relaxing day at home. I try to make my weekends that way - stay at home as much as possible and relax, read a book, write, play with my daughter, and listen to music. Helps me prepare for the upcoming week.
I am know we have the same messenger, Linda. I tend to let people upset me during the holidays (especially the ex husband). But I am "trying" to overcome that and calm down. I am noticing signs that I need to slow down as well. In order for me to be here and healthy for my grandchild and grandchildren yet to be...I've GOT to slow down and get in touch with my inner peace.
I'm going to put neon sign in my office room that says, "Slow down and smell the roses"!! Old cliche but so very true! One of my new year resolutions is to take care me first so that I can take care of others and enjoy it!
I have heard messages too lately. I think I am far too patient and tolerant..and need to stand up for myself more than I do, and sometimes, just every once in a while, spend time taking care of just me. Your post made me think. Thank you! Sal
Your day sounded so nice! What I'm hearing lately is "don't worry!" and "trust!" but sometimes I tune it out.
I'm hearing echos of the past, when I was over stressed and became so ill that I could not get out of bed. I resolve each day to live in the moment and not take on too much. Stress is a killer.
Linda, Thanks for sharing Judi's Armani Suit post. It was charming and inspiring! I like her perspective, and hope to put some of that to work in my own life.
All - it seems like this is a common area of needed focus for many of us. Let's resolve that we'll all slow down for the rest of December and enjoy the season! Who knows, taking it easier might get to be a habit!
