Support your local bookstore!

Today I'm piggy-backing on Joanne's idea for supporting the publishing and bookselling industries. (Despite what my husband thinks, I'm not keeping the industry going all by myself!)

So, here's the plan: leave a comment telling us a little something about one of the best Christmas suprises you had as a child.

I'll draw later this week and the winner will receive a gift card from either Border's or Barnes and Noble!

Oh now this is a prize I would really love!

The best Christmas surprise I had as a child was when I unwrapped a guitar. My father played in a country band and I'd always dreamed of playing like him. It was a beauty but sadly my father played by ear and couldn't teach me so I never learned to play like I wanted to. I still dream of learning someday:))

I'm so glad to see that snowman making his way around the country supporting the bookstores! I hope many more blogs borrow him.

I'd say my best Christmas surprise was a Kodak Instamatic Camera, mostly because it inspired a love of taking photographs that is with me still.

The best Christmas present I received as a child was a journal and a beautiful pen set. My mom was always supportive of my dream and I didn't even ask for the present. That kicked started everything. (Thanks Mom.)

What I remember most about my childhood Christmases is the gathering of our extended family at grandma's house and the chance we had to play with our cousins.

The most memorable Christmas was spent in Brooklyn, NY with my dad's family when I was very young. Uncle Al climbed through the window from the fire escape. I was scared to death. (Think skinny Santa wearing Buddy Holly glasses). He gave me a pink satin baby blanket. I slept with that blanket until it fell apart when I was a teenager.

The first thing that came to mind was the year our parents surprised my sister and me with front row tickets for Muppets Live! LOL! It was such a good show (though Animal scared the peewaddins out of me!). Great memory.

Hi there!
Oh, my, too many to choose from.

Perhaps a Betsy Wetsy Doll. Do you remember those? Now I am REALLY dating myself. (1950s) She was wonderful and because I was so little, felt so big in my arms. Holding her I felt like a genuine momma! She had tiny little white cloth diapers and wet herself so graciously (aww....). I'll have to ask my mom what happened to her.

I have a whole bunch of childhood holiday memories cited in a current post at my blog if you want to read more. :-)

Thanks Linda for such a nice site and a chance at a gift! Blessings to you.

The best Christmas surprise I had was the year my sister and I each got a Madam Alexander doll--one of the Little Women series. That was the most beautiful doll I had every seen. I still have it.

Hmmmm. Well, I had saved pennies for months to finally buy a Barbie doll when they first came out, but had nothing left over for clothes. For Christmas my grandmother surprised me with a box full of Barbie clothes that she had sewn herself, and Santa brought me the original Barbie Dreamhouse - the cardboard one with sides that folded out, and cardboard furniture that you put together yourself. I was in heaven!

All our friends had the lovely (and new) Barbies, but my twin sister and I didn't. There were 4 kiddies at our home and Dad was still in grad school, so times were tough. We begged, pleaded, wrote letters to Santa and Baby Jesus for Barbies of our own. We even behaved for months on end! I'll never forget the utter happiness nad joy of unwrapping those dolls on Christmas morning 1964.
